F.A.C.T.S. GUEST - Richard Hatch
Present in : 2008

Richard Hatch was born on May 21, 1945 in Santa Monica, California. He started his career in the entertainment world by starring in off-Broadway plays like PS Your Cat Is Dead, which won him the Obie award.

Before Battlestar Galactica, he replaced Michael Douglas in The Streets of San Francisco. He also played in teh American soap operas All My Children and Santa Barbara and starred in such movies as The Hatfields and The McCoys with Jack Palance, Addie and The Kings Of Hearts with Jason Robards, Last Of The Belles with Susan Sarandon, and the cult classic Deadman's Curve where he portrayed Jan Berry of the musical group Jan and Dean.

Richard Hatch is best known for his role of Captain Apollo on the original Battlestar Galactica movie and television series, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Apollo is the leader of Blue Squadron in Battlestar Galactica. Given that he is one of the central characters in Battlestar Galactica, most of the plot and character relationships revolve around him. He is the son of Commander Adama and is married to Serina, a reserve Viper pilot who eventually got killed by Cyclon on Kobol. After Serina's death, Apollo adopted her son, Boxey and becomes romantically involved with Lieutenant Sheba.

He is the co-author of seven Battlestar Galactica novels and wrote, co-directed and executive-produced a Battlestar Galactica trailer that won acclaim at science-fiction conventions. He produced the trailer The Second Coming in an attempt to pressure Universal into creating a new series of Battlestar Galactica that would have been a direct continuation of the original series. Original actors John Colicos (Baltar) and Jack Stauffer (Bojay) appeared in the trailer along with Hatch himself. It is presumed that the actors would have appeared in the series itself. Hatch also believed that he could persuade Dirk Benedict to return and play Starbuck.

He was offered a cameo-role in the new BSG-miniseries but refused. It was producer Ron Moore, while meeting Richard at a convention, who persuaded him to play the rol of Tom Zarek, a terrorist who changed to a politician.

He's the only original BSG actor starring in the new Battlestar Gallactica series.

Guests appear subject to work commitments and good health. Their presence at F.A.C.T.S. can thus, sadly enough, be cancelled at any moment.
