F.A.C.T.S. 15 - october 15/16 2005 - Report

Enjoy the best moments of F.A.C.T.S. 2005

The fifteenth edition of F.A.C.T.S., the biggest SF, Fantasy, Anime and Comic convention in the Benelux, took once more place on October 15 and 16, 2005 in the International Congress Center in the magnificent Citadelpark in Ghent.

This year, the weekend started on Friday, October 5th with the Première in Belgium of the movie "A history of violence" in the Kinepolis Centre in Ghent. The presence of the actors Viggo Mortensen and David Cronenberg was a fantastic opportunity for all true signature-hunters.

As mentioned earlier, this was already our fifteenth edition. And what could be a better way to celebrate this fifteenth edition than with the presence of fifteen guests on our convention. We invited no less than 8 actors: Don S. Davis (General Hammond in Stargate SG-1, also starring in Twin Peaks and the X-Files), Matthew Wood (voice of General Grievous in Revenge of the Sith, sound supervisor in the Star Wars prequels), Corin nemec (Jonas Quin in Stargate SG-1, Parker Lewis can't lose), Neil & Adrian Rayment (the charismatic 'twins' of the Matrix Reloaded), Warwick Davis (who played several roles in the Star Wars saga, amongst others Wicket, leading role in the Leprechaun horror series, roles in Harry Potter, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, etc.), Jerome Blake (who plays no less than 6 different characters in the Star Wars saga), Richard Bonnehill (experienced swordsman, different characters in the 'original' Star Wars saga), Paul Norell (role in Xena, King of the Dead and Lord of the Rings - return of the King).

We further welcomed 4 comic artists, namely Romano (Witchblade, X-men, The Darkness, etc.), Chris Evenhuis (published several comics and worked on The Darkness), Liam Sharp (whose portfolio envelops series such as Red Sonia, Death Dealer, Storm, etc,.).

Finally, F.A.C.T.S being still a Belgian convention, we also welcomed Belgian talents such as: Lectrr (his 4th F.A.C.T.S. attendance as a guest, fantastic cartoons!), Wim Tilkin (Swabteam), Jesse R. (all around artist, who also plays in the Belgian band Fifty Foot Combo).

And this was just for starters!

Several releases were realized on F.A.C.T.S. Glénat presented its Dutch version of the first edition of the award winning 20th Century Boys, NTE released the following DVD's: Gundam Seed vol. 6, Witch Hunter vol. 4 en Planetes vol. 1.

F.A.C.T.S. was, as usual, crowded with dealers. All records were broken and every corner of the I.C.C. was filled with merchandise and bargains. We have more than 90 dealers from Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Germany, the U.K., Luxembourg, Sweden, the U.S.A. etc. When all their money was spent, visitors could relax and wander around in our fan village of 1000 square meters. The different fan clubs (Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, Lord of the Rings etc.) were represented. Fans met each other, admired the life-size props en participated in the organized activities.

And even this was not the end of it! In our movie room visitors could enjoy Gundam Seed, s-CRY-ed, Witch Hunter Robin, Stratos 4, Planetes and the Return of the Ewok. The latter being a Belgian premiere starring Harrisson Ford, Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher etc. and directed by Warwick Davis.

For those who still wanted more, there was the arcade galley (with thanks to Gizmoxia) with 30 consoles. There also were tournaments, role playing demonstrations, card game demonstrations, model kit demonstration, etc.

In the evening of Saturday, 3 Japanese masterpieces could be attended in the Decascoop, namely the marvelous anime Appleseed and the live action movies the Neighbour n°. 13 and the Last Supper.

This was without any doubt a magnificent weekend!
