F.A.C.T.S. 13 - october 11/12 2003 - Report

Enjoy the best moments of F.A.C.T.S. 2003

It was the third time that F.A.C.T.S. was spread over a whole weekend (October 11 and 12, 2003). The I.C.C. (Internationaal Congrescentrum, Citadelpark, Ghent, Belgium) was once more the place to be. In square meters, facts grew over 50% in comparison with the previous edition, thus spreading over three rooms and with a total surface area of more than 4000 square meters. This surface was used for over 550 meters of stands (to compare: the previous edition of F.A.C.T.S. had 380 meters of stands!)

The dozen of sellers (shops, private collectors, fan clubs, organizations, editors, etc.) from Belgium, The Netherlands, France, GB, Germany, Denmark and even (for the first time) the United States. If one was looking for a rare object, wanted to complete his collection or was hunting for bargains, F.A.C.T.S. just was the place to be approximately 5000 visitors!

Top Licence/Decipher and Wizards of the Coast organized several Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Magic the Gathering demonstrations and tournaments. Further, several science fiction quizzes were held and cosplay-contests, that were a feast for the eye. Because of the enormous success of the arcade gallery in 2002, an extra gallery was installed, where Shop Less Ordinary organized several contests.

The fan clubs were once more the provided for marvelous activities: diorama's, scale models, magnificent costumes and shows helped in creating a true F.A.C.T.S. atmosphere.

F.A.C.T.S. 2003 broke all records as far as guest stars were concerned. We welcomed more that 10 guest stars, counting 4 Star Wars actors: David Prowse a.k.a. Darth Vader, Kenny Baker a.k.a. R2D2 ( one of the actors participating in all 6 Star Wars movies), Michael Carter a.k.a. Bib Fortuna in Return of the Jedi and Femi taylor a.k.a. Oola in Return of the Jedi. Because SF is more than Star Wars alone, we were proud to welcome Mark A. Shepherd (Morn of Star Trek -DS9) and Jonathan Hardy (Rygel form the popular series Farscape). And as top off the bill there was the very appreciated attendance of Jonh Rhys-Davis, a.k.a. Gimli from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy!

Obviously, F.A.C.T.S. would not be F.A.C.T.S. without an important delegation of artists. On this edition, on could gaze at the work of John Avon (acknowledged fantasy-artist and author of many Magic-cards), the comics of Swabteam (poster and flyers of F2003) and the ever-present Lectrr. Some F.A.C.T.S.-nostalgia was in the air with Steven Kyte (our very first guest ever) and the woman who is working more than 10 years to spread manga and anime under the people: Helen McCarthy.
